Ceramic Ball Bearings
CERAMIC BEARINGS
Ceramic is the new Holy Grail! Its lighter, smoother, stiffer, harder, corrosion resistant, and electrically resistant. These fundamental characteristics allow for a wide range of performance enhancements in bearings. Ceramic bearings dissipate heat quickly, reducing friction and wear while maintaining a precision smooth surface. Today's leading edge ceramics are made with Silicon Nitride (Si3N4) and have characteristics similar to the heat absorbing, highly resilient tiles on the Space Shuttle.
Silicon Nitride (Si3N4) Series: A new material suitable for applications where high loads, high speeds and extreme temperatures are factors. Long life and the need for minimum lubrication makes this material perfect for harsh conditions. Si3N4 is anti-magnetic. Maximum useful temperature is 2552°F.
Alumina Oxide (AL203) Series: Resistant to most corrosive materials, however not recommended for environments containing hydrochloric hydroflouric acids or strong alkaline solutions. Maximum useful temperature is 3180°F.
Zirconia (Zr02) Series: Inert to corrosive materials, with the exception of hydrofloric acid and hot concentrated sulfuric acid. Maximum useful temperature 1800°F.
